7 Marquee Wedding Venues Perfect for a Big Asian Celebration — the Garden Marquee’s 500 capacity is a genuine selling point here
There’s something about a marquee that just suits a big Asian wedding. When you’ve got hundreds of guests, three generations under one roof and a guest list that somehow keeps growing right up to the week of the wedding, you need space — real space. And a marquee gives you that, along with something a fixed banqueting hall often can’t: a blank canvas. Drape it, light it, fill it with colour and flowers, build your mandap exactly where you want it. It becomes whatever you imagine.
The other quiet advantage? You get the best of both worlds — the open-air, garden feel of an outdoor celebration, with a proper roof over your head for whatever the British weather decides to do that day.
So if you’re planning a large celebration and the marquee look has caught your eye, here are seven venues around London and the Home Counties that do it beautifully.
1. Hunton Park, Hertfordshire
Let’s start close to home. Hunton Park is a striking 1800s manor house set in 22 acres of rolling Hertfordshire parkland, and it’s become a real favourite for big Asian weddings — and it’s easy to see why. The purpose-built Garden Marquee can host up to 500 guests for a banquet, with lovely views out across the lawns, and because it’s properly equipped for all weather, your day runs smoothly come rain or shine.
You arrive via a sweeping driveway up to the grand doorway, which makes for a genuine entrance and beautiful photographs. There are also smaller spaces — the Terrace Marquee and the Hazelwood Suite — for the surrounding events like your mehndi or a more intimate dinner. And of course, being our own venue, the catering is handled in-house by The Clay Oven, so the food is one less thing to think about.
Best for: Couples who want a grand countryside setting with the food and venue working as one seamless package.
2. Parklands, Quendon Hall, Essex
Just over on the Essex/Hertfordshire border, Parklands at Quendon Hall is a 17th-century mansion sitting in around 100 acres of deer park — the kind of setting that does half the work for your photographer. You get exclusive use of the house and grounds for the day, which gives the whole celebration that “stately home for a day” feeling.
For the larger reception, the Pavilion seats up to 500 guests under crystal chandeliers and a starlight ceiling, and the venue has plenty of experience with multicultural and Asian weddings. There are guest bedrooms on site too, which always helps when you’ve got family travelling in.
Best for: Couples after exclusive use and grand, exclusive surroundings within easy reach of London and Stansted.
3. Coombe Abbey, Warwickshire
A little further out, but worth the mention for couples happy to make a weekend of it. Coombe Abbey is a historic former abbey with a dedicated marquee that holds up to 500 guests — and crucially for a big Asian wedding, it comes with its own private kitchen, bar, dance floor and stage area built in.
You can hire it exclusively from early morning right through to midnight, all year round, and the West Terrace makes a lovely spot for drinks receptions or an outdoor ceremony. The setting is full of character and history, which gives the whole day a real sense of occasion.
Best for: Couples wanting a self-contained marquee with everything — kitchen, bar, stage — under one roof.
4. Chigwell Marquees, Essex
If your guest list is genuinely huge, this is the one to look at. Set on the grounds of Chigwell Hall, just up the A12 and easy to reach from East London, Chigwell Marquees can hold up to 1,000 guests at any one time — built specifically with big Asian weddings in mind.
There’s a large manor house on site, a mega marquee for the main celebration plus a smaller one for more intimate gatherings, a dedicated mandap space, lush grounds and a secret garden for photos, and plenty of free on-site parking. It’s a venue that understands the scale and the colour an Asian wedding needs.
Best for: Very large guest lists that need serious capacity without leaving the London side of things.
5. Coombe Abbey aside — Copthorne Effingham, Surrey
Down in Surrey, close to Gatwick, Copthorne Effingham sits in around 40 acres of parkland and offers a relaxed country-hotel feel with a striking circular ballroom that can hold up to 500 guests. While the headline space here is the ballroom rather than a canvas marquee, the grounds give you that same garden-celebration atmosphere, with beautiful spots for photographs and ample parking on site.
It’s a comfortable choice for families travelling from further afield, with the airport close by and accommodation right there.
Best for: Couples wanting a large parkland setting with easy access and on-site rooms for guests.
6. The Watermill Hotel, Hertfordshire
Another lovely Hertfordshire option. The Watermill’s marquee sits in the grounds of the hotel, surrounded by English countryside, and can cater for up to 450 guests for a ceremony, reception, dinner and dancing all in one place.
It’s an especially pretty pick for a summer wedding, with the gardens coming into their own in the warmer months, and the hotel offers discounted rooms for your party — handy for a big family event that spills well into the evening.
Best for: Summer celebrations of up to around 450 guests who’d like rooms on site.
7. Shoreditch Gardens, London
For couples who’d rather stay in the city, Shoreditch Gardens in Hackney offers space for up to 500 seated guests with flexible tent-hire options that suit custom layouts — and the weather. It also offers dry hire, which means you get full control over your own suppliers and styling. For an Asian wedding, that flexibility is gold: you can bring in your own caterer, your own décor team and build the day exactly to your vision.
It’s a more urban, contemporary feel than the country houses on this list, which can be a refreshing change of pace.
Best for: City-based couples who want a blank-canvas, dry-hire space and full control over suppliers.
A few things to weigh up before you book
Capacity is the obvious one, but it’s worth looking past the headline number. Check whether the figure quoted is for a seated banquet or a standing reception — they can be very different. Ask what’s included: some venues are all-inclusive, others are dry hire where you arrange catering, furniture and styling yourself. And think about your guests — parking, nearby hotels and how easy the venue is to reach all matter more than you’d expect when you’re inviting several hundred people.
Most of all, picture your celebration actually happening there. The right venue isn’t just the biggest one — it’s the one where you can already see your family filling the space.
And wherever you land…
A marquee gives you the room and the freedom; the food is what your guests will still be talking about months later. At The Clay Oven, we’ve spent over 40 years catering big Asian weddings across London and the Home Counties — at our own Hunton Park, and at venues like these all over the South East. If you’ve found a space you love, we’d be glad to help you build a menu worthy of it.
